It's here! It's here!
spring 2012
Never you fear, it's here, it's here, the day that we've waited for all through the year!
Near Summer's End, Dark winter begins, and the veil between worlds is extremely thin.
Our dearly beloved are gathering near, at least in this season that's how it appears.
A great dying down in the circle of life, as darkness encroaches and cool breezes bite
Unleashing a longing, as spirits draw close, To taste of the numinous world of ghosts.
They come on the breeze and they steal the leaves, from the dead wrinkled fingers of crumpled up trees.
They whisper a world which we cannot find, they tell us the secret that boggles our mind.
Their phantasmic veil o'ershadows the land, MYSTERIUM TREMENDUM ET FASCINANS
This mystery locked behind veils so tight, that all brush aside here on Hall-O-ween night.

That's beautiful...Bill, are you familiar with Loreena McKennitt's album, The Visit? The entire album is themed around Samhain - the veil between the worlds, life and death, etc...including one of my most favourite songs:

All Soul's Night
Words and music by Loreena McKennitt

Bonfires dot the rolling hillside
Figures dance around and around
To drums that pulse out echoes of darkness
Moving to the pagan sound

Somewhere in a hidden memory
Images float before my eyes
Of fragrant nights of straw and of bonfires
And dancing till the next sunrise

I can see lights in the distance
Trembling in the dark cloak of night
Candles and lanterns are dancing, dancing
A waltz on All Souls Night.

Figures of cornstalks bend in the shadows
Held up tall as the flames leap high
The green knight holds the holly bush
To mark where the old year passes by.

Bonfires dot the rolling hillsides
Figures dance around and around
To drums that pulse out echoes of darkness
And moving to the pagan sound.

Standing on the bridge that crosses
The river that goes out to the sea
The wind is full of a thousand voices
They pass by the bridge and me

Chris, I love this. Thanks for sending it! I love Loreena McKennit! Thanks again!

That's great Bill...I really like it - also like those lyrics Chris

What a pleasure to wake up reading this - thanks for sharing this Bill. Captures all your excite and anticipation for Halloween that has been building up in your postings! We want pictures pictures pictures of you and your fellow trick or treaters!

I'll definitely see what I can scare up! Im going to go as Ganesh tonight. Not necessarily the God Ganesh, but just some guy named Ganesh. Still, I am hoping for a spiritual vibe to the costume.

That's an excellent poem, Bill. It took talent to write that. I particularly enjoy the way it rhymes while saying something apropos.
